Heart Attack Infographic Project

Project Statement:
The project objective is to choose a topic to research and then create an online infographic that conveys complex information in a simplistic, engaging way. Knowing and lowering the risks of heart attacks is the overall topic for the infographic, and the goal is for people to reduce their chances of having a heart attack. The platform for this infographic is Facebook because their user demographics align with people who are most at risk of having a heart attack.
The colors for this infographic are navy, red, green, and tan. These colors are warm, soft, and slightly muted, which creates a more calming and friendly feeling to balance the serious and frightening topic of heart disease. The fonts for this infographic are LTC Globe Gothic Regular, Tenso Light, and Tenso Medium. LTC Globe Gothic Regular is the font for headlines. It has heavy and light strokes to give the eye some visual interest compared to Tenso Light and Tenso Regular, which are very uniform, clean, and easy to read. Each illustration reflects the most significant part of its section. These graphics use similar tones and incorporate the infographic’s primary colors to create a cohesive look.
Research:
For my infographic, I utilized the American Heart Association as my primary source of credible medical information and cross-referenced it with the Cleveland Clinic. The American Heart Association's website provided comprehensive sections on heart attacks, and after reviewing them, I focused on three specific webpages. Similarly, the Cleveland Clinic offered abundant information on heart disease, which I included in the infographic as it is the leading cause of heart attacks. I gathered risks and prevention methods from both sources, organized the material, and proceeded to develop the visual elements. To determine the best social media platform, I researched various platforms using Kharos, ultimately selecting Facebook due to its even gender ratio, larger presence of the target demographic, and existing sharing of healthcare information.
Brainstorming and Sketching:
The first two pages are my brainstorming ideas after researching the risks and ways to lower your chance of a heart attack. I wanted to determine the headline, specific sections, CTA, and how to sort out my medical research best. This allowed me to understand better how to lay out my infographic.
After brainstorming, I started on thumbnails for my infographic. I sectioned out my content and started determining what icons would be needed for the infographic and how to add in my sections to create the best flow of information. From my thumbnail sketches, I decided to use a two-column layout, finalize my content for each section, and begin creating the icons and overall sections for the infographic.
Color Study:
Based on feedback, the infographic should have a warm color scheme instead of a cool-toned one. The cool colors from my first version created a sterile, unwelcoming, and alarming feeling. Changing the colors to a warmer palette makes the infographic more welcoming, calming, and friendly. I also muted the colors slightly to align with a more adult and serious topic. This choice makes the overall infographic less strenuous on the eyes and makes it easier to absorb the information.

Type Study:
I chose the three fonts for my infographic: LTC Globe Gothic Regular, Tenso Light, and Tenso Medium. From the feedback on my first version, I concluded I needed a more lightweight and friendlier font choice. I found LTC Globe Gothic Regular, and I liked using heavy and light strokes to give the eye some visual interest. To pair with LTC Globe Gothic Regular, I chose Tenso Light and Regular. Tenso is a very clean and easy-to-read font family. When paired together, the infographic is more visually interesting while still being clear enough to read.
